Get Involved!

Become involved with a project that has caught your passion: whether it's Green Sanctuary, Gift-Based Ministry, as a worship associate, leading a covenant group, or something entirely different, your congregation needs your involvement in order to benefit from your unique talents and gifts!

Become a religious educator. Whether you are working with children, youth, young adults, or adults, this work can be deeply fulfilling and fun!

Offer to become a lay leader in your congregation. Talk to your nominating committee. If your congregation’s in search for new professional leadership, think about whether you might contribute in new and exciting ways to that venture.

Witness your faith in the company of others, on behalf of your congregation. Seek out connections with other religious groups who share similar values. Help carry the message -- beyond your congregation -- that makes clear Unitarian Universalism's values and voice in this challenging world.

Become a delegate to your UUA District's meetings. You'll learn new skills, develop a sense of Unitarian Universalism that extends beyond your own congregation, and help nurture the vitality of our faith in your district.

Don't wait to be asked: contact your congregation's Nominating Committee and tell them you're willing to serve. They'll be glad to hear from you!

Ministries

We at Restoration have collectively chosen to re-create ourselves into “ministry groups” so that each member of our church family could participate in the ministry of Restoration. We have committed ourselves to create a community where all of us can share our gifts, develop new talents, new skills, discover ourselves in new ways, establish new relationships, and deepen already existing relationships with one another as we unearth a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist and a member of the UU Church of the Restoration in Mt. Airy.

These Ministries are listed below along with their mission statements:

Congregational Life Ministry

Mission:The mission of the Congregational Life Ministry is to build personal connections within our church community. This ministry functions as a Council of Committees.

Our Work: This ministry periodically brings together individuals and committees focused on Caring, Hospitality, Membership, and Gatherings that are not under the auspices of other ministries. Meetings are intended to provide cross-fertilization, mutual support, and coordination among the constituent committees.

Contact one of our co-chairs if you have an interest in helping nurture our congregational life. They will help you find your niche.

Multicultural/Anti-Oppression Ministry

Mission: To promote the acceptance of the multi-cultural aspects of The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Restoration by providing an inclusive environment through communication and interaction with diverse groups within the congregation and the wider community.
To practice anti-racism and anti-oppression in our thought, language, behavior, and structure, by developing an awareness of these divisive forces and how they impact our lives.
To create a welcoming congregation embracing people of all gender identifications and sexual orientations.
To create an accessible environment to accommodate all levels of physical and mental abilities.

Imperative: Creating Accessibility and Promoting Multicultural/Anti-Oppression Awareness and Participation.

Religious Exploration Ministry

Mission:

Imperative: Multi-generational Religious Education with an emphasis on Children, Youth, and Young Adults

Religious Services Ministry

Mission: The Religious Services Ministry works with the minister to shape worship practices of the congregation.

Our Work: Members assist Minister, Reverend Kathryn Ellis, and Director of Music, Jane Hulting, to plan and coordinate all aspects of each Sunday service. We plan who will be in the pulpit from week to week and who will serve as lay leader. We assist guest speakers and lay leaders to serve with ease. We work with the minister, administrative assistant and other church staff to facilitate our common goal of providing rich worship experiences.

Our Members: During the 2010-2011 church year, the convener of this ministry is Annabel Grote. Members are Carol Auerbach, Julie Bradburd, Bridget Flynn, Holly Jobe, and David Meketon. Our minister, Reverend Kathryn Ellis, advises and plans with us.

Many people work behind the scenes providing music, audio-visual services, and altar decorations; greeting people at the door; and taking the offertory. No Sunday service could go on without community effort. We are grateful for each person who serves.

Social Justice & Community Action Ministry

Mission: To work for peace and justice in our local community, and also on key issues of national and global importance, in accordance with our UU principles.

Imperative: Community Involvement
